Designed as a valuable resource for cultural managers, the digital Cultural Calculator transcends its function as a mere tool for estimating the economic impact of cultural projects. It empowers users to grasp the nuanced meaning of economic impact and the diverse variables that influence it.
Furthermore, to broaden the understanding of the cross-sectoral impacts of cultural projects, the initiative introduces the Cultural DNA – a complementary tool, offered free of charge, that facilitates the analysis of cultural project impacts on sectors such as tourism, education, and the environment.
Developed through a collaborative partnership between ASAS Arte e Tecnologia and Garimpo de Soluções, the Cultural Calculator leverages Luciana Machado’s two decades of expertise as a cultural producer and Ana Carla Fonseca’s three decades of work and research in the economics of culture. This initiative represents another significant contribution from these two organizations in fostering awareness about the economic impact of culture, made possible by a grant from ProAC – the Secretariat of Creative Economy of the State of São Paulo.
The Cultural Calculator was officially launched in July 2021, accompanied by a live event featuring contributions from esteemed colleagues who shared video insights on the interconnections between culture and their respective fields. The website, www.calculadoracultural.com.br, has been fully operational since the project’s launch.
